Q: I admit I’ve made some bad decisions in my life, but a couple of months ago God finally got my attention and I asked Jesus to take over. I know He’s forgiven me, but I was hoping He’d also clean up some of the messes I’ve made, and so far He hasn’t. Was I expecting too much? — G. McL.
A: Yes, you were expecting too much because your god and Jesus do not exist. The “attention” that you think you received from god may have been an emotional response to something you felt you needed in your life. If you feel that you’ve made poor decisions in your past that you now regret, you may want to examine and redefine your personal morality and priorities such that you will not regret your future decisions and behaviors. A professional therapist may be able to help you break out of any bad habits you may have. You should keep in mind that some of our problems arise through no fault of our own. If you are satisfied with your personal morality and remain true to yourself, you will have many fewer regrets in the future.
