Q: I suppose you’ve heard this before from other people, but I don’t go to church and don’t see any reason to start going. I consider myself a Christian, but I’ve never gotten much out of church, so why should I bother? — K.D.
A: You may want to reconsider why you call yourself a Christian. Many people are Christian because, as children, they were taught the bible was the word of a god, and have never questioned those teachings. I urge you to research the origins of the bible manuscripts and to read about the beliefs of other religions (including older ones no longer practiced). When I did this, I discovered that a vast majority of the stories and themes in the bible had been recycled from older cultures and religions, and that there is no credible historical evidence to support the stories of the New Testament. I have also discovered that most of the bible just doesn’t make logical sense and it’s teachings are often cruel.
