Q: My husband admits he’s being unfaithful to me but he doesn’t care. He says if I don’t like it I should leave. I’ve always felt divorce was wrong in God’s eyes, but I feel so humiliated and hurt that I don’t know how much more I can take. Please pray for me. — R.S.
A: The bible is a terrible basis for making important moral or life decisions, especially for women. It is misogynistic, cruel, racist, very inconsistent (more inconsistencies), and completely absurd. For example, the bible seems to indicate that divorce is OK for a man but not a woman. How can this be fair or moral?
The majority of these absurdities, inconsistencies, and cruelties are completely ignored by most Christians. This brings up two important questions:
- How can the bible (with all it’s cruelty, absurdity, and inconsistency) be the word of a god?
- How does one decide which parts of the bible are “good” and which are “bad”?
Because there are no good answers to these, a rational person could conclude that the bible is the not the word of a god, but a collection of man-made fiction, myth, and legend.
Please do not be influenced by what a cruel, misogynistic, racist, inconsistent, absurd book says. I would advise you to make the decision about divorcing your husband that is the best for you and any children you may have. You may want to contact a trained therapist and a lawyer to explore this decision further.
