Q: I know God has forgiven me for all the bad things I did when I was young, but will I ever forget them? They haunt me all the time because I know my life would have been much different if I just hadn’t chosen to go down the wrong road. — A.J.
A: I hope you don’t forget your past mistakes, but remember and learn from them. As Spanish philosopher and writer George Santayana famously said, “Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it.”
You believe that your god has forgiven you for your past actions, but you cannot know that this has happened. In fact, there is no credible evidence to support even the existence of any gods. I would suggest that one of the mistakes you’ve made in your life was to believe that a god exists. I suggest that you critically analyze your beliefs in the supernatural to determine if it is rational to hold on to them. If you do this with an open mind, you will discover that your belief system is irrational. See posts in my Rejecting Belief category for additional information.
